Omnicide Defined

Omnicide refers to the complete destruction or extinction of all life, or specifically all human life, resulting from deliberate human actions. The term is commonly used to describe the hypothetical global annihilation caused by nuclear warfare or a catastrophic anthropogenic ecological collapse. Coined by philosopher John Somerville, the word merges the Latin words omni (all) and cide (killing) to denote the erasure of the entire human species. It serves as an extension of concepts like genocide and suicide, highlighting an extreme threat where humanity could eradicate its own present and future in a single, irreversible action. PG
