Towards A Universal Currency ASAP - Earth-Dollars / Earth-Euros (Call Them What You Like)
Should Earth adopt a Universal Currency? There is no single official universal or global currency used by all countries. Instead, the world uses a system of individual national and regional fiat currencies (such as the US Dollar, Euro, Japanese Yen, and British Pound) managed by central banks.
What currently functions as a "World Currency"?
While no universal physical or digital currency exists for everyday global use, certain currencies dominate international finance and trade:
1. Reserve Currencies: The US Dollar (USD) is the world's primary reserve currency, heavily used in global trade, commodity pricing (like oil), and central bank reserves. Other major global reference currencies include the Euro (EUR), British Pound (GBP), Japanese Yen (JPY), and Chinese Yuan (CNY).
2. Universal Currency (UNIT): There is a minor cryptocurrency named Universal Currency (UNIT) traded on select digital asset platforms, valued at approximately $0.0063 USD per UNIT, though it is not a mainstream or official global legal tender.
3. Commodities: In historical contexts or speculative world-building, high-value physical commodities (such as gold, silver, or energy) have often acted as natural universal standards.
PG thinks there should be a Universal Currency - "EarthCreds/EarthBucks/UniCoins" (call it/them what you want ...) ASAP. Stay tuned...
