Hrishikesh Koloth, an independent contractor for UraniumX Discovery Corp, was fatally attacked by the black bear on May 8 at the exploration company's site about 50 miles northeast of Points North Landing in central Saskatchewan, CBS News, The New York Times and CTV News reported.
The isolated region is home to black bears and grizzly bears, according to the Times.
“We are deeply saddened by this tragic loss,” UraniumX CEO Esen Boldkhuu said in a statement following the attack. “Our thoughts and deepest condolences go out to the family, friends, and colleagues of the deceased.”
The bear was euthanized by a bystander at the scene before authorities arrived, according to the news outlets.
