The dogs are trying to escape, shoving their noses through his knees and climbing all over each other attempting to paw their way out the glass door. He’s got it open just a few inches and is trying to calm them. The whole entryway is solid glass, a tall plate-glass door flanked by tall plate-glass windows, or walls, so the whole scene is visible: him gently motioning for the dogs to sit, his mouth moving as he shushes them, them scampering around at his feet.
