MADISON, Wis. — David Crowley, the top elected official in Milwaukee County, seized a surprise win Tuesday for the Democratic nomination in Wisconsin’s race for governor, giving the party’s establishment a victory over a democratic socialist. Crowley, 40, will face Republican Tom Tiffany, a congressman from Wisconsin’s rural north who easily defeated political novice Andy Manske in Tuesday’s GOP primary. Tiffany, 68, spent a decade in the state legislature before he was elected to the House in a special election in 2020. Crowley defeated three Democratic opponents, including Francesca Hong, a state representative and democratic socialist who led in polls.
