Norway's King Harald dies at 89 Matthew Robinson Fri, August 28, 2026 at 4:34 AM GMT-2:30 4 min read Norway's King Harald has died at the age of 89, the royal palace said on Friday.

"It is with deep sadness that we announce that His Majesty King Harald passed away peacefully at the National Hospital on Friday, August 28, at 6:35 a.m.," a statement on the royal house's website said The royal family visited the king in the 24 hours leading up to his death, and crowds laid flowers at the place. Harald's health had been in decline for some time and in April of 2024 he reduced his public engagements. He was recently treated with cortisone for the blood condition, hemolytic anaemia.
