Plans by Gianni Infantino, the Fifa president, to sell stakes in the World Cup to private investors have raised serious eyebrows, not least over reported connections to the Trump administration. The man said to be in talks to lead the deal is Joshua Kushner, the brother of Donald Trump’s son-in-law, whose family is deeply embedded in the White House. Thrive Capital, a successful venture capital firm launched by Joshua Kushner in 2009, will lead the proposed investor group in the sales process, Fifa confirmed. Sources also claimed that figures close to the Trump administration have been consulted about the plan. The move is expected to entrench Fifa’s relationship with the Trump family, after the US president personally called Mr Infantino during this month’s World Cup to successfully overturn a red-card ban against American striker Folarin Balogun. Joshua Kushner, 41, is colloquially known in the business world as “the other Kushner”, preferring to maintain a lower profile than his older brother, Jared Kushner, 45.
