From Serbia With Love - Upaid's Innovative Mobile Payment System

Upaid, a mobile payments specialist, has launched a mobile phone top-up service in several north African and east European countries. The company brought together Serbia’s leading mobile operators and 10 banks to create a mobile payment consortium.
Once customers register their credit cards with Upaid, they can top up their mobile phone credit by sending a text message. The phone top-up application is an enticement for customers to register with the service rather than the company’s end goal, says Terrence Trench, senior vice-president of commercial development. “The problem is pre-registration. You have to motivate a customer to do something in advance of any benefit for what they’ve done,” says Mr Trench. “As we look at m-commerce, where we have to tie mobile phones and details together, we have to find the most convincing, tangible proposition to encourage the customer to pre-register.”

IMHO the most appealing part is "we have to find the most convincing, tangible proposition to encourage the customer to pre-register."
