Vollee to bring Second Life to mobile devices

An Israel-based company backed by Silcion Valley venture firms said Monday it plans to bring Second Life's virtual worlds to mobile devices. Vollee Ltd. said it will bring San Francisco-based Linden Lab Inc.'s 3D virtual world platform to 3G handsets via its streaming mobile games service. Vollee said its Second Life mobile service will work for both existing users and those trying out Second Life for the first time through the mobile service. Vollee says its proprietary software is the only one on the market that can stream any high-end PC title to mobile, including massively multiplayer online role playing games. Vollee's Second Life mobile beta trials will begin in May 2008. Vollee is backed by Menlo Park-based BlueRun Ventures and Benchmark Partners
